To succeed in today’s classroom, educators, students, and parents need actionable insights about student learning. Yet in most districts, they are trying to make sense of data housed in spreadsheets, PDFs, and other assorted applications used in the classroom every day. This creates a challenge for all involved – educators who don’t have a true sense of student activity and achievement, students in need of counsel on how their outcomes translate to their learning path, and parents interested in greater involvement in their child’s education without access to the right information to do so.
At the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, our work focuses on creating a classroom where there is seamless access to useful, timely, and actionable data — solving challenges for educators, students, and parents. We are interested in partnering with districts and charter management organizations that aim to use data to tackle these specific opportunities and challenges:
- College, career, and military readiness: empowering educators and students to create, monitor, and achieve their graduation plans, career alignment goals, and readiness for postsecondary opportunities.
- Chronic absenteeism: enabling early intervention and parent/student involvement to reduce chronic absenteeism.
- Enhanced engagement: providing parents and students with easy to understand information about student achievement, in one place.
- Assessments: using data to identify effective, research-based strategies for improving performance in various content areas.
- Equitable access: providing equitable access to programs and opportunities for all students.
