Dell Young Leaders: Money alone doesn’t solve problems

In South Africa, too many university students on financial aid are failing to make it to graduation day. These first-generation university students face very real challenges which explain the low graduation rates.

In 2010, we launched the Dell Young Leaders program to help South African students with high potential from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed at university. From the start, the program was designed to offer students much more than a check – from academic tutoring, to mentoring, to assistance obtaining basic supplies such as emergency food, textbooks, and toiletries.

In this podcast, you will hear Thashlin Govender, Program Director, South Africa at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation talk with three outstanding Dell Young Leaders who have overcome tremendous adversity to make it through graduation and beyond.
