Transforming the lives of children living in
urban poverty through better health and education

Basic Health Services

Africa faces a wide range of poverty-related ills, ranging from the malnutrition that kills and stunts millions, to high mortality rates from preventable diseases, to lack of access to clean water and basic sanitation.

Across Africa, we support a variety of programs that meet three basic goals: Immediate positive impact, the potential to be sustained over time, and the proven ability to scale to meet the needs of as many people as possible. Through partnerships with established and reliable grantees, we focus on:

  • Deploying vaccinations to fight the meningitis epidemic throughout Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Providing educational infrastructure and good sanitation in rural Ethiopia
  • Installing pump systems to deliver clean drinking water to residents of Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Combating the malnutrition that is the leading cause of premature death, disability and reduced work capacity in Africa through fortified food staples such as wheat flour, cooking oil and others with vitamins and micronutrients
