Transforming the lives of children living in
urban poverty through better health and education

Basic Health Services

The state of Texas has the highest number of uninsured people in the U.S. In Central Texas alone:
  • Forty percent of economically disadvantaged families lack health care coverage
  • Almost 25 percent of children up to 18 are uninsured
  • Uninsured children and youth are four times more likely to delay necessary care and five times more likely to use emergency rooms as a regular resource for care
We seek to ensure that low income families in Central Texas get better access to quality, affordable health care. We support innovative clinics that offer:
  • Extended evening and weekend hours
  • Resources that link patients and families to basics such as health insurance
  • Locations convenient to high need communities
  • Management of chronic diseases like asthma, childhood obesity, and mental health
  • Community-specific linguistic abilities and intervention programs
STRATEGY

We fund local organizations that significantly improve access to quality healthcare services for low-income and uninsured children and their families in Central Texas.
