Transforming the lives of children living in
urban poverty through better health and education

School and Community Health

India’s nearly 100 million urban slum residents struggle daily to stay healthy. Inadequate infrastructure and lack of education about the benefits of hygiene contribute to exceptionally high mortality rates from preventable causes. Meanwhile, poor nutrition makes children susceptible to easily preventable illnesses that cause them to miss many days of school, increasing the risk that they’ll remain mired in poverty.

To bring about a sustainable and measurable health improvements, we focus our efforts on projects that:

  • Provide families with access to adequate water and sanitation
  • Improve household-level sanitation behaviors through hygiene education
  • Foster community demand for and access to quality health services
  • Catalyze and support government-sponsored, school-based health and nutritional interventions
STRATEGY

To decrease the incidence of preventable illness, we support community and school-based health and nutritional interventions as well as efforts to improve access to adequate water and sanitation.
