Over one-half of the world’s population is now clustered in urban communities worldwide, with more than 1 billion residents living in crowded urban slums. Children are particularly vulnerable to the conditions in these environments, most of which lack basic public and social services. These facts compel us to think and act globally in our areas of focus.
