From a young age, Angelica Tello wondered why people behave the way they do. Growing up the eldest child of a single-parent household in a low-income Hispanic neighborhood of Austin, TX, her observations inspired her determination for a better life and to be a role model for her teen-age brother and two sisters.
Angelica focused on her studies, having to rely on herself to improve her academic skills, as a way to cope with a home life marked by economic uncertainty and social instability. Throughout high school, her participation in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program, a college readiness program, kept her centered on her career goals and college scholarship opportunities, including the Dell Scholars Program.
