Gift Supports Direct Patient Care
AUSTIN, TX – People’s Community Clinic today announced that the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has awarded the Clinic a $250,000 grant to support the clinic’s adult and pediatric care services.
The award represents an 11 percent increase in funding from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation over last year’s grant. The grant will greatly enhance the Clinic’s ability to serve over 10,000 uninsured and medically underserved children and adults each year and open up some capacity for new adult patients which, until this point, has not been possible.
“Approximately 40 percent of economically-disadvantaged families in Central Texas lack health care coverage and of those, 35 percent indicate that they are unable to get primary health care,” said Dr. Aliya Hussaini, Grant Officer, Health Portfolio at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. “People’s Community Clinic is a vital part of the Austin community and we are proud to provide the additional support needed so the clinic can continue providing high-quality medical care to those in our community who are in most need. Austin is our home and we want to make a positive change in the lives of its economically disadvantaged and vulnerable children.”
Adult primary care includes services such as medical treatment and prevention, annual exams, treatment and management of chronic conditions, nutritional counseling and dietary assessment, medications and more. The grant will also support pediatric care services, which include well-child examinations, post discharge evaluation of newborns, medical assessment and treatment for chronic and acute conditions, immunizations, health and developmental screening and other crucial healthcare assistance.
“Thanks to the vision of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, the Clinic is able see more pediatric patients for ‘well child’ checkups and acute care and have greater evening clinic capacity than ever before,” said Regina Rogoff, Chief Executive Officer of People’s Community Clinic. “We are fortunate and grateful that the Michael& Susan Dell Foundation continues to provide much-needed funding for the safety net causes in our community which help to transform the lives of the underprivileged and the working poor.”
Many patients receiving care from the Clinic pay for services on a sliding scale, with only 10 percent of its overall revenue for the year coming from patient fees. In order to assure and increase capacity, the People’s Community Clinic relies primarily on community support and private donations. Nearly 60 percent of its annual $6 million budget must come from private sources - individuals, foundations, corporations, and organizations.
