AUSTIN, Texas --Janet Mountain, executive director of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, released the following statement regarding the new Texas Charter Schools Association:

“The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation welcomes the creation of the Texas Charter Schools Association (TCSA) and the commitment of more than 100 charter operators to take this significant step forward in providing quality public education in our home state of Texas. Charters are a vital part of the public education system and offer high quality education options, particularly for students and parents who have historically not had many choices at all. We believe the Texas Charter Schools Association will insure that Texas charter schools expand with quality and will support continuous improvement in student achievement.

“We are especially pleased with the appointment of David Dunn as executive director of the TCSA. His experience and his commitment to driving quality and achievement in the nation’s schools will undoubtedly benefit Texas charters. We look forward to working together with the members of the charter association to better demonstrate charter school performance, improve student achievement and impact, and facilitate the collaboration between charter schools and school districts.”
