-8th consecutive year, more than 3,000 disadvantaged youth from south and east Austin have been campers
2010 Camp Glimmer kicks off this week with campers enjoying educational activities designed to develop team building, self-esteem and leadership skills. For the eighth consecutive summer, Camp Glimmer will give hundreds of at-risk children from south and east Austin an opportunity to experience the joy of a first-class summer camp. And best of all, it’s free. Camp Glimmer is open to any child attending one of the 106 programs funded by A Glimmer of Hope Austin.
For the fourth consecutive year, students from the Austin Tennis Academy are raising money for A Glimmer of Hope through the “Playing for Glimmer” Campaign. The ATA kids have provided funding for campers to receive a new pair of running shoes. The ATA also has raised more than $300,000 so far and built eight water wells, a health clinic and two schools in rural Ethiopia.

A Glimmer of Hope's focus is to lift women and children in rural Ethiopia out of extreme poverty. Glimmer developed an entrepreneurial model to provide clean water, schools, health clinics and micro-finance loans. 100% of every donation reaches the projects. In 10 years, we have completed more than 4000 projects and improved 2.5 million lives. Barron’s magazine recently named founders Philip and Donna Berber among The 25 Best Givers in the world, placing them sixth on the list based on their impact and effectiveness.
Recognizing that poverty comes in many forms, A Glimmer of Hope Austin was established in 2003 and has granted more than 3 million dollars to support over 100 Austin nonprofits working with disadvantaged youth and seniors in Central Texas.
A number of individuals have been instrumental in the success of Camp Glimmer, including local tennis star, Andy Roddick and Paul Carozza, founder of Shoes for Austin and RunTex.
