Dell Scholar Ambassador Encouraging Students

A 2005 Dell Scholar, Angelica Tello is in her junior year at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in psychology. Angelica is determined to lead a better life and to be a role model for her teen-age brother and two sisters.

With the completion of her bachelors degree in sight, Angelica is already reaching back to encourage other disadvantaged students. As a Dell Scholars Ambassador, she is helping the Dell Scholars program team with finding resources and support services for other Dell Scholars, including assisting the program in starting local scholar chapters at universities with high enrollments of Dell Scholars.

The future for Angelica is full of promise. After receiving her degree, she intends to continue her education and earn a Masters or Ph.D. in counseling or psychology with specialized study in the areas of domestic abuse and violence related to low-income populations. Her goal is to work with children and families, helping people who are going through difficult situations to accomplish what they want in life.

With each class of Dell Scholars receiving four-year degrees, the success of the program grows more evident in its direct impact: providing college education opportunities for highly motivated students who because of lower academic performance, may not have had access to other resources or the motivational support needed to graduate.
