Childhood Health

Globally, in destitute urban communities in the USA and developing nations, we are supporting programs that provide basic health services and access to clean water and sanitation. Our international activity is concentrated in India, where 120 million children live in extreme poverty and most urban slums completely lack public services.

In the USA, one-third of children are overweight and the early onset of Type 2 diabetes is epidemic. We are determined to reverse this trend by supporting national school-based programs that engage teachers, students and their community in healthy eating choices and regular physical activity.

Additionally, we have provided grants of over $65 million in The Michael & Susan Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living, The Dell Pediatric Research Institute and Dell Children’s Medical Center. These world-class facilities in Austin, TX, are helping to advance global medical and behavioral research in childhood obesity and disease, with hopes of heading off potentially debilitating adulthood illnesses, and providing state-of-the-art pediatric care.
