Michael and Susan Dell Reach Out to Hurricane Katrina Victims and Encourage Support from Others
September 5, 2005

Michael and Susan Dell pledged $5 million toward Hurricane Katrina relief in an effort to support the victims of the devastation and encourage others to get involved. The hurricane that ravaged 90,000 square miles of land in the Gulf States has also devastated families who have lost their homes, schools, and places of work and worship.

"Our support goes out to the families affected by Hurricane Katrina," said Susan Dell, co-founder of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. "These people are faced with rebuilding their lives and their communities, and we need to help."

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the organization is currently spending $500 million a day on Hurricane Katrina disaster relief. With the total cost of damages, loss of life, and people requiring medical attention increasing on a daily basis, additional and ongoing support will be required for the relief and rebuilding efforts.

"Americans are known for their strength, fortitude, and generosity in times of need," said Michael Dell. "We encourage people in the U.S. and everywhere to give with their hearts, reach out to these victims, and donate what they can to the relief efforts."
