Michael and Susan Dell Foundation Grants $130,000 to The Austin Jewish Academy
November 7, 2003

AUSTIN, TEXAS, November 5, 2003 – The Austin Jewish Academy (AJA) today announced a grant from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF). The grant of $130,000 provides significant funds to support the AJA scholarship assistance program. With this grant, the Academy is able to ensure that approximately 50 percent of the school’s families who depend on this financial support will be able to take advantage of the high learning standards put in place by the AJA.

The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation grant is a 30 percent increase over the grant received from the foundation in 2002. In giving this grant to the AJA, the MSDF shows its continued support for the AJA’s educational mission, which provides students with an excellent education combined with a strong sense of personal ethics and identity.

“This grant is a testament to all the hard work that the AJA’s faculty, staff and community have put into building Austin’s emerging star in kindergarten to eighth grade education.” said Ross Garber, president of the AJA. “We are proud and honored to receive this award from the MSDF, an organization dedicated to education and community. I am thrilled at the opportunity to provide this financial assistance to many Austin families, so they too can share this rigorous and inspired learning environment.”

Quickly becoming one of Austin’s top private schools, the AJA offers an intensive academic curriculum that provides students with an excellent education and a strong sense of personal ethics, morals, and Jewish identity. In the 2002-2003 school year, AJA students scored at the 97th percentile nationally on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills standardized tests, for the second year in a row. Additionally, all graduating 8th graders matriculated to premier Austin high school honors programs.

In the 2003 – 2004 school year, the AJA has provided scholarship assistance to over 40% of its students and families, made available on a needs-basis. By leveraging this gift from the MSDF, the AJA is able to continue to pursue high achievement in education, sharing its unique approach to learning to community members, of all financial backgrounds.
