Michael & Susan Dell Foundation Announces the 2007 Class of Dell Scholars
April 10, 2007
The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation has named 252 graduating high school seniors as Dell Scholars, and they will be awarded $20,000 to attend the college of their choice. The scholarship program is designed to reward students' determination to succeed in a way that outweighs their academic records or test scores alone. The program enables under-served students with financial need to achieve their greatest potential through higher education. The Dell Scholars program has awarded 700 $20,000 college scholarships since 2004. Dell Scholars attend colleges and universities across the U.S.
Dell Scholars are chosen because they have demonstrated hard work, determination and perseverance despite personal challenges. The program not only provides $20,000 of financial assistance to each scholar, but also provides additional support and advice to help them continue their path toward a college degree.
"Our goal with the Dell Scholars Program is to help these motivated students fulfill their dream of a college education," said Susan Dell, Co-Founder and Board Chair of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. ""It recognizes and rewards the student’s determination to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals through higher education."
The Dell Scholars Program focuses on students in college-readiness programs that prepare students for higher education. The goal of the program is to enable more students with financial need to succeed in becoming college graduates.
