Community Caring in Central Texas

Michael and Susan Dell have deep ties to Central Texas and instilled in us a responsibility to the poor and vulnerable children living in our home community. The need around us is significant. In Central Texas, 60 percent of school-age children come from low-income families. Their economic and social conditions contribute to wide disparities in academic performance, health and fitness, and safety. To date, we have given nearly $150 million to over 100 regional non-profit organizations working in the following special focus areas.

Beyond Central Texas, our partnerships working with children across Texas' diverse socio-economic and ethnic population provides an excellent test bed for new ideas and refining practices, helping the foundation to replicate programs as we move our mission forward to reach children throughout the USA and around the world.

Academic & Afterschool Programs
Disadvantaged students in our urban districts persistently lag behind in reading and math literacy. We support academic improvement and after-school programs that are vital to help prepare these children for college and beyond.

Childhood Health & Fitness
Providing access to affordable primary healthcare and basic services, and preventing childhood obesity through healthy nutrition and physical activity programs is a high priority.

Childhood Safety
More than fifty percent of Central Texas children are considered at-risk, suffering higher incidents of academic failure and abusive environments. We assist programs that provide support and shelter for our community’s most neglected and abused children.
